Our children’s diets and eating habits are a matter of growing concern in terms of, above all, health effects, but also the social and cultural impact.   

Every year, the aim of our school workshops is to teach kids about where their food comes from, to introduce them to new and unique flavours, and to develop their sense of healthy eating.  Our hope is that the experiences and information conveyed to the kids through these workshops will plant seeds that, continually nurtured, will grow and bloom into an interest in food origins and taking a genuine pleasure in eating. 

On annual basis our chef volunteers conduct healthy eating and food workshops for national schools around the country. The next round of workshops will take place in Spring 2012. Some of them will be actually holding the workshops in classrooms, while others are welcoming classes of students into their restaurants to conduct the workshops.  Aside from the generous support from La Rousse Foods, who provide Tasting Boxes for each chef, our chef volunteers receive no funding or payment - they give their time, input and materials because it's a cause they believe in.

This year, nearly 700 students will be directly affected by our school workshop programme, and with the information they learn, countless other brothers, sisters, friends and family members will benefit as well.  The hope is that the programme will continue to grow.  The more children we can teach, the more we can spread the message of healthy eating and quality food and pass on an appreciation of food to Ireland's future generation of chefs, farmers and consumers.
